What’s Their Secret? LOUISE JENSEN @Fab_fiction confesses! #HerLastSecret

To celebrate #HerLastSecret going on sale, I’ve asked authors to share their secrets with me… Today it’s LOUISE JENSEN, author of psychological thrillers The Sister and The Gift.

Louise is a USA Today Bestselling Author, and lives in Northamptonshire with her husband, children, madcap dog and a rather naughty cat.

Louise’s first two novels, The Sister and The Gift, were both International No.1 Bestsellers, and have been sold for translation to sixteen countries. The Sister was nominated for The Goodreads Awards Debut of 2016. Louise ‘s third psychological thriller, The Surrogate, can be pre-ordered now and will be published tomorrow.

Secret writing ritual…

On a first draft I always light a Black Cherry Yankee Candle and listen to the same piano music I did when I wrote The Sister. It’s almost become a superstition.

Secret writing snack…

Cheese when writing, chocolate hobnobs when editing. I really did used to be a nutritional therapist!

Secret celebration when you finish a WIP…

A glass or two of wine and much smiling to myself!

‘Guilty secret’ read…

I’m reading the adult Famous Five books! My son bought me ‘Five give up the Booze’ for Mother’s Day and I enjoyed it so much I ordered the rest.

‘Guilty secret’ tv programme…

Nashville – loving the country soundtrack and sequins!

Shared secret…

I once had hiccups for fifteen hours. THAT was fun…

Secret peek into your new WIP…

The opening paragraph of The Surrogate, due to be published tomorrow (27th September) is:

There is a rising sense of panic; horror hanging in the air like smoke.

‘They’re such a lovely couple. Do you think they’re okay?’ says the woman, but the flurry of emergency service vehicles crammed into the quiet cul-de-sac, the blue and white crime scene tape stretched around the perimeter of the property, indicate things are anything but okay. She wraps her arms around herself as though she is cold, despite this being the warmest May on record for years. Cherry blossom twirls around her ankles like confetti, but there will be no happily ever after for the occupants of this house, the sense of tragedy already seeping into its red bricks.

Secret Santa… (If you could give a happy ending to any character who would it be, and what would you do?)

There’s a character in my new book, The Surrogate, who it doesn’t go well for.  You’ll have to read the book and guess what I’d do differently.

THANKS FOR THOSE GREAT CONFESSIONS, LOUISE!

There are some secrets you can never tell.

The last thing to go through Dominique Thomas’s head was the image of her teenage daughter’s face and her heart lifted. Then the shot rang out.

They were the perfect family. Successful businessman Ben Thomas and his wife Dominique live an enviable life, along with their beautiful children; teenager Ruby and quirky younger daughter, Mouse.

But on Christmas Day the police are called to their London home, only to discover a horrific scene; the entire family lying lifeless, victims of an unknown assailant.

But when Ruby’s diary is discovered, revealing her rage at the world around her, police are forced to look closer to home for the key to this tragedy.

Each family member harboured their own dark truths – but has keeping their secrets pushed Ruby to the edge of sanity? Or are there darker forces at work?

This dark, gripping psychological thriller will have you holding your breath until the very last page. Fans of Behind Closed Doors, Sometimes I Lie, and The Girl on the Train will be captivated.
