WHAT I SAY

With 97% of Britain’s meadows lost since 1930, there has never been a better or more important time to get people rediscovering nature. This book is a wonderful companion to help reconnect people with some of the places to visit across the country.

The photography is really eye-catching, and shows off wild meadows, secret gardens, ancient orchards and kitchen garden cafes to perfection – and even makes suggestions for great places to stay. It makes me want to jump into my car right now and go exploring!

What’s more, the writing is very evocative and personal, rather than simply factual and ‘listy’. Apparently Pascoe was inspired to research and write Wild Garden Weekends when she was attempting to rediscover the magical butterfly-filled memories of her childhood; her passion and love for the subject matter is very obvious.

As well as being a lovely thing to look at, the book is easy to navigate if you are looking for a specific area. A clever additional feature of this book is that it is also available as an app for iPhone and Android, and for Satnav.
