Bloggers choose INVISIBLE and FLOWERS FOR THE DEAD as their best reads of 2016
31 December 2016
Both INVISIBLE and FLOWERS FOR THE DEAD have been lucky enough to be chosen by several bloggers to feature on their Best Read of 2016!
Earlier this month, THE Book Club on Facebook invited twenty book bloggers to choose their Top 20 favourite reads EVER. Now that is a tall order to fulfil, and some absolute classic books made their appearance, including Lord of the Rings, Madame Bovary, Catch 22, and Flowers For The Dead! That’s right, Flowers For The Dead appeared on the list of three separate bloggers’ lists, Lucy V Hay, DampPebbles, and My Chestnut Reading Tree. Wow!
I couldn't ask for a better end to a year that has already been so wonderful. To read about my highlights of 2016, pop over to my blog.
Bookouture snaps up bestselling thriller writer!

So excited to share the news that I have signed a four-book deal with publishing powerhouse Bookouture!
My first novel for Bookouture will be published in summer 2017, with book two following in autumn.
"I’ve long been watching Barbara’s career with huge interest – her talent for creating charismatic, unforgettable characters, coupled with the darkest storytelling, is second to none," says Keshini Naidoo, Associate Publisher at Bookouture. "She’s already achieved fantastic sales with her self-published titles, and I’m now looking forward to us working together to take her readership to new heights."
I'm so excited about what the future holds for this partnership! To find out more about it, read Bookouture's official statement here.
FLOWERS FOR THE DEAD: THE MOVIE
Well, the short video ad, lol!
28 November 2016
After Black Friday comes Cyber Monday. This is the time when the big guns have huge sales and promotions to lure shoppers into parting with cash. They spend millions on advertising. I can't compete with that. I wouldn't even know where to begin! But it did get me thinking that perhaps I should try something a little different to make readers aware that, if they fancy buying a loved one a great crime read for Christmas, then mine are available, tee hee.
So, I got together with the lovely Paul, who has created all of my covers for me. This would be a new challenge, though, as this time we would be making a video. Yes, Paul is not only a talented cover designer, he is also a 3D animator supremo!
I'll say it right up front, though: I'm not always a fan of video ads for books. The ones I see on social media, or even on television, are often too long, or they try to make the novel sound like a movie.
Paul and I chatted about ideas, and the simple message we wanted to convey. Then he built a bespoke 3D animation for me, making the lighting atmospheric, and experimenting with how the snowflakes fell (at first they were drifting down straight, but he changed them to swirl with the wind), and even trying different rates of blood flow from the package until we were both happy. It was fascinating to watch it come together.
I couldn't be more pleased with what we've come up with! It's short, to the point, and atmospheric. What do you think?
